|One of Peet's many recent aggressive expansion shops, this outlet has taken up corporate patio space near the entrance to the Orrick Building. Some limited table and window counter seating, and a retailing case in the front corner. A little cavernous with the high ceilings - the space is rather cold and impersonal - and often more customers than seats. Register staff here exhibit the classic Peet's 'for here' problems. Using dual two-group La Marzocco machines, they pull modestly sized shots with a medium brown crema that is sometimes thin, but now moreoften rather substantial. There was a bit of dilution in their otherwise herbal pungent flavor when they first opened, but the body has improved as well. At first I thought Peet's was struggling to hold on to quality as they expand, but this location just needed a little time to settle in. Their milk frothing has turned out to be pretty good as well: even-textured microfoam, though a bit generous in drinks like all Peet's.
