|Open since 1970 and at this location since 1994, this is the original of what started an SF chain. A vast space at the ground floor of a larger office complex, there are soup lines and an espresso bar in the corner. A few fast-food style indoor tables with booth seating, and a tall table with stools near the espresso bar. Using a two-group La Pavoni machine from Crossroads Espresso, they pull large shots with the whitest crema you've ever seen. If you're lucky - other times, it doesn't even exists. The crema is quite thin on the occasions it is present, and the shot is served in a large paper cup. It has a distastefully ashy aroma, but it has an overextracted flavor of hot water and mild spice 'extract'. This is homeopathic espresso, and it makes you wonder if all the good flavors were left in the ground beans. This is foul water. Avoid like the plague.
