|This location is a little more than just the renaming of the former City Blend Cafe that once stood on this spot. The same Primo roaster is displayed out front as before. But they don't profess their commitment to on site organic roasts like the previous owner. Also, gone is the focus on edibles, and in its place is a focus on coffee beans, espresso, smoothies, and juices. While an 'el cafetazo' is often known as a Cuban espresso shot, this is the West Coast - so there's no noticeable Cuban influence. There are wall paintings, coffee bean sales, and Internet access in a rather vast (and mostly unused) space. Using a three-group La Spaziale, they pull an overextracted espresso shot with a thin body and a rather ashy flavor. The crema is striped with dark brown lines - it almost has a good appearance, save for the white dot of 'heat'. Not surprisingly, it is served quite hot in a full cup. As with the previous owner, they are marked by grungy and often mentally disturbed clientele.
