|This somewhat upscale restaurant and bar in the Hotel Vitale has panoramic views of the Bay and the Ferry Building. They pack it in for happy hours. An odd collection of lampshades helps define the internal decor - in addition to photos of people sleeping on beds that are hung and illuminated from the ceiling. They use Equator Estate Coffee, which more often I find in restaurants who think they know gourmet coffee but haven't the foggiest of what to do with good coffee beans other than buying them. They use their 72 Degrees blend for drip coffee and their Tiger Walk Blend for espresso. Their espresso machine at the bar is a superautomatic Shaerer Ambiente: essentially the same as the brain-dead Starbucks Verismo machines. With it, they pull an espresso shot with a pale, micro-thin crema (though it can vary to a legitimate cover). It's smoky and ashy in flavor, but not necessarily bitter and unpleasant. For their 'Digestivo', they serve a double espresso with a Romano Black Sambucco 'con mosche' on the side, which is a nice touch to finish a meal.
