|Aka "Caffe SOMA", this is a man's coffee bar - there are (almost) no women about. (There are clocks everywhere, however.) And with the heart of the Folsom St. Fair nearby, it's a burly scene of Hog riders who prefer to drink their bitter espresso with broken glass in it. The clientele is somewhere between burly gay men in chaps and homeless people staking out chairts for free reading - though probably more their free newspapers rather than their rack of pilot and boating magazines. The barista cops a major attitude, but it is somewhat comical. Using a three-group La Spaziale, he serves an espresso with a thin, medium brown crema of massive size in manly paper cups. It tastes ashy and bitter - "and you better darn like it". Their closing hours depend upon the day's business.
