|One of the nicer downtown Stabucks, covered in marketing shelves as it is. Yet the espresso-making skills of its staff are below the Starbucks average. You know you're in trouble when you walk in and notice the menu board doesn't list espresso anywhere (yes, not even under the heading of "Espresso" - though they have since fixed this). The clientele here are big on big drinks loaded with vanilla syrup - the 7-Eleven Slurpee equivalent that tastes like melted down coffee candy. So it's no surprise that they produce espresso from their dual super-automatic Verismo machines that has a micro-thin, pale crema made up of medium-sized bubbles. Flavorwise, it varies. Sometimes it tastes mostly of milder ashiness - not quite the "have a drink of Pompeii" variety, but something more watered down where it's not as bitter. At other times it can taste of a deeper, dark, robust ash and tobacco.
