|Unassuming storefront in a small bakery chain. With four small indoor tables, window counter seating looking out onto Market St., and two small sidewalk tables outside. It gets a bit of foot traffic, despite the closure of their Mission St. location that was replaced with a Tart to Tart. Using an older Mr. Espresso Faema Due and Mr. Espresso beans (they use Peerless for their drip coffee), they produce an espresso with a proper 2mm, dark brown, congealed crema that clings to the paper cup they serve it in. Like other Eppler's locations, they have surprisingly authentic-looking espresso with a lacking flavor that doesn't live up to its looks. In the center of the crema is a white dot - meaning the brewing temperature is probably too hot. The evidence is high, as the serving temperature is almost scalding - which disguises the fact that it otherwise has a mild ashy/burnt flavor. And it has no aroma.
