|Small, counter-only espresso bar (with minimal outdoor seating sunny afternoons) pays most of their attention on coffee and less on any food (smoothies, sandwiches) - and the focus shows at times. Rich pour served from a big orange Rancilio with thin layer of dark brown crema that can vary to something much fuller and very pale. It can also vary from bold brightness to something very muted in the cup. With a flavor that's almost sweet/sour with the usual elements of mild spices. Which is too bad -- at times it can taste like they've had espresso in Italy, and other times it can taste like they haven't quite left San Francisco. This often depends on the volume of the pour. The barista/owner keeps "Italian" hours of operation (i.e., not precise), however. Voted the best latte in S.F. by some, but such claims are seriously dated.
