Review
Classic, ornate Italian café - cavernous, opera music, long bar, exquisite marble counters, and an extensive pastry counter. They spared no expense - down to the paintings on the recessed ceiling, above the chandelier. Bright interior. Numerous indoor tables, booth seating, a few high wooden tables with stools, and extensive patio seating (under heat lamps) along Scott St. More recently, they branched out into serving dinner. Using a three-group Faema E-91 Ambassador, they serve espresso with a surprisingly thin dark brown crema. Properly short shot, and it shows in its rich, deeply smoky, sweet molasses flavor. A very elegant espresso-drinking experience - more consistent than their Union Square location. Their milk-based drinks are quite good as well: very good microfoam and ok latte art. The owner's sister adds just the right amount of milk to a macchiato. [CLOSED in 2009: Reopened as Ristobar.]
