|Bright, comically edgy caf, live music venue, bar, and laundromat. Wide corner space with many windows. Exposed wood rafters, metal counter with stools, and odd-shaped tables and chairs with bubble gum wrapper art. Several sidewalk tables with beer-branded parasols. The bathroom, aka the "Writer's Room," encourages graffiti with their chalkboards for walls, but they're always out of chalk. Wide base of patrons, but it seems especially popular with the young, fiercely independent motorcycle repair woman. Tattooed staff with the attitude to match fit in nicely. Non-descript coffee beans are labelled "Island Blend" on the bag with no distributor (after five years of asking, we finally learned the current supply is from McLaughlin - and previously America's Best). Espresso is served with a barely noticeable aroma of drip coffee - with a crema that can vary from a thin ring of large-bubbles to a light coating of even, blonde foam. In addition to half filling paper or drip coffee cups, they now offer flea market demitasses. Flavorwise, its taste and depth were once a peppery step above drip flavor, but it's now more ashy tasting - seemingly trading one bad tendency for another. Much better at food and atmosphere than they are at espresso, which isn't recommended.
