|Intensely authentic Italian (Rome) restaurant staff. There's no formal greeter, so entering can be a little chaotic on busy nights. Dark interior has the occasional smell of truffle oil. A noisy place on two nearby seating levels. For years they've used pre-ground beans but pre-heated cups. Shiny, single-group Elektra machine at the back. They sometimes serve espresso a little cool. While it can lack a punch, or a depth of flavor, it's tobaccoy with a sweet edge. The crema is respectable: a layer of lighter brown, sometimes marbled with a medium brown. Yet they serve appropriately sized "three-sip" espresso, resulting in a cup that requires no sugar and has no bitterness.
