Notes: Temperature Control Problems; Outdoor Seating

Large café (formerly RJ's Cafe/Fine Foods and unrelated to the SoMa cart of the same name) with little space devoted to customers: Mediterranean deli, ice cream, wall refrigerators, wireless Internet, etc. Old European ad prints on the walls. A few indoor and a couple outdoor cafe tables, but the sofa seating is best. Some of the staff is brand-new to espresso-making (and English for that matter), but the owner sets standards and gets a bit out of the modest elements. An even, generous layer of medium-brown crema with a mellow, nutmeg-like flavor. Body could be richer but the full flavor makes up for it. Served lukewarm and with a little coffee grit on the bottom, however. Served in pre-Rosenquist Illy logo cups. [CLOSED: As of 2010, supposedly seeking a new buyer.]
