|Market St. chocolate shop with a small espresso bar on the side. They removed the couple indoor, uncomfortable chairs & tables here in 2003, so now it's take-out only. Naturally, at the same time, they decided to do away with "for here" cups in favor of all paper. All bad signs for espresso quality, and the quality drop here showed immediately. They also once had one of the more entertaining baristas in the city, but it's all business now with more mundane espresso. They also replaced their La Marzocco with a two-group Elektra. Though they have stuck with Graffeo, and the price, since 2003. They pull rather large shots with a very thin layer of medium brown crema - sometimes with large bubbles. The flavor is sometimes on the ashy side, and you know it's not the coffee (unless they're sneaking Peerless): it has that "my machine hasn't been serviced in months" flavor. But when the servicing is good, the cup exhibits more of a tobacco smokiness that can actually be quite pleasant. An adequate body, and there is some sweetness at the bottom of the cup for mild redemption.
