|This French bistro is set in an odd, industrial neighborhood between the Mission and SOMA - under what's left of the old Central Freeway offramp. The chef came from the Alps but has run French bistros in SF for years. It's tucked away behind some canvas drapes before you enter an outdoor garden patio with heat lamps. Beyond that is the main barn of a dining area, complete with skylights, a central wood-burning stove, and - oddly - animatronic taxidermy. The food is pricey, and that includes the espresso - which is served from a two-group Conti at the entrance bar. The shot has a balding, bare, medium brown crema. It has a watery body with a diluted flavor of mild spices turned filter drip coffee. Yes, the espresso here is "Very French", and we mean that in the worst possible ways.
