|This establishment makes good food in the "New Brooklyn" of downtown Oakland, which now seems less diverse than most parts of San Francisco. It's an Art Deco building across of the stylish Oakland Fox Theater. Lots of black and white, with white tablecloths and large posters of that bygone era. It's a solid restaurant effort from a two-group Nuova Simonelli behind the bar using Blue Bottle Coffee. They pull shots that have a darker, mottled crema that you rarely see in restaurant espresso. It's served as a doppio - in size and sufficient body, which is only a bit light. It has a flavor of spices and a solid midrange, but little range beyond. Still, a decent restaurant espresso.
