|This sister of the chain seems to fare much better with its coffee than its SF counterpart. It's a vertically spacious corner shop with sidewalk seating and multiple booths indoors. They serve smoothies, frozen yogurt, snacks, and coffee. Everything here seems $1-2 more expensive than it should be, but the quality is there. ($3.25 is almost outrageous for a single shot of someone else's retail espresso. It would be the most expensive standard espresso in SF that didn't come from a restaurant.) Using a two-group La Marzocco FB/80, they pull an espresso with a mottled medium and darker brown crema of modest thickness. It has an enticing chocolatey aroma, some acidic bite, but mostly it shows an herbal pungency of freshly roasted coffee with a syrup-like edge. Served in classic brown Nuova Point cups. They make decent microfoam, but it's not decorative and yet their milk-based drinks show a good balance of flavor. Surprisingly good. Pour-over coffee is also available.
