|This bar/restaurant, near KQED and a busy Muni depot, has been in the area since the late 1990s. Outside, the front window boldly advertises "ESPRESSO". But like many places where this is an artifact of pre-Starbucks-saturation, a remodel today would (and should) probably remove it. Inside there are exposed metal x-frame beams, a small kitchen, several dining tables, a bar in the back, and often evening crowds. Using an old, two-group, Mr. Espresso-branded La Marzocco, they pull full espresso shots with an even, thinner, medium brown crema. It has a decent aroma, and the cup starts with a relatively potent flavor profile. However, that quickly gives way to more bitter elements, resulting in more of a smokier cup.
