|Self-service café just beneath Nepenthe with ridiculously overpriced, terribly underperforming espresso. But with a view over the Big Sur cliffs and shore from its patio. There are a number of solid, round tables surrounding by plastic chairs under parasols. Using a two-group La Marzocco Linea (from Pacific Espresso) behind the counter (with portafilter handles frequently left cooling in the drip tray), they pull gargantuan, oversized single shots that fill their large Hall demitasses. The shot has a thin, white-pale crema that barely coats the surface. It's weak and diluted given its size, of course, but the flavor isn't as watery considering. But it's still a watered down flavor of mild spices. A criminal espresso made all the more offensive for its $4 price tag.
