Review
Among downtown Napa's efforts to lure more inventive dining options, this farm-fresh, biodynamic restaurant ranks right up there. Inside it is dark and cavernous with stone walls, a tall ceiling, and darkly stained wood. They play upbeat modern must for a generally "less modern" clientele. The yoga studio is upstairs (as if to earn sufficient street cred from the vegetarians). While the food is inventive, like a lot of vegetarian and vegan cuisine, its seasoning is heavily reliant on salt. For their coffee, their menu clearly brands their coffee providers: Blue Bottle Coffee in metal press pots and Mr. Espresso for espresso. To produce espresso shots, they result to a massive, jukebox-sized Faema X2 Grandeitalia superautomatic machine at the bar. With it, they serve espresso with a bare ring of pale crema and a simple taste of mild spice: it offers little difference from filter drip coffee. Is their superautomated machine tuned wrong? Whatever it is, it falls flat. Served in whimsically spiral-shaped O! Luna cups from Spanish manufacturer, CIM. [CLOSED: Torc as of 2013.]
