|This golf resort lodge calls itself in Carmel, suggesting Carmel-by-the-Sea, though it is more accurately in Carmel Valley. It's a restaurant attached to the main office near the entrance to the lodge, and inside you are greeted with cheesy jazz sax music suggestive of The Weather Channel's soundtrack - perhaps piped in from their hotel room cable TV system for all we know. The restaurant overlooks one of the lodge's larger man-made, duck-attracting ponds. While resort casual is the theme, the menu and prices are rather upscale. Using a UNIC Twin Phoenix at the bar, they pull shots of espresso with the classic thin Illy crema of light-to-medium brown. It also has the classic Illy flavor of mild spices, but it is served as a properly short shot - and thus isn't diluted. Served in a mismatched cup and saucer.
