Review
This storefront café opened in October 2003. Limited stool seating against the side wall (they got replaced their small newsstand for more tables). Owner/barista, Sam Twal, gets specialty roasts from America's Best Coffee - and formerly Capricorn - and he genuinely loves them. With the lengthy slogan, "Have you had a good cup of coffee lately?," they once served a decent, but not great, espresso that has since become progressively worse. Now it tends to be served with a thin, medium-to-light brown speckled crema with larger bubbles over many ounces (!) of diluted espresso in a paper cup. (Doubles are even more ridiculously sized: about 7 oz.) Sam will ask if you like it short (calling it a "ristricto" [sic]), but his staff don't have a clue in that department. They use a three-group La Spaziale Super 3000 and an iffy bean supplier, so it's not entirely surprising. The cup has a subtle (and heavily watered-down) flavor of spice with elements of wood and smoke. Too many choices nearby that are far better to ever come here.
