Review
Small but popular Noe Valley stop for bean sales and coffee to go. This is the Martha & Bros. that started it all in 1987. Sidewalk bench seating in front. Limited seating indoors: a few tables and a converted "closet," plus five window counter stools. Four-group Faema E91 Diplomat produces an unusually dark espresso that's rather bitter. Among the Martha & Bros. chain, they clearly serve one of the bitterest, least flavorful espressos. However, they do demonstrate good milk frothing skills, so what makes a poor standalone espresso makes a good cappuccino or latte when softened by milk. With a medium layer of dark brown, swirling crema and an ashy flavor. Paper cups only.
